No. Our velvet hangers do not shed or rub off on clothes during normal, dry wardrobe use. The one exception is freshly washed laundry: moisture and repeated rubbing are hard on any flocked finish, so let clothes dry before moving them onto velvet.
The usual problem. A velvet hanger gets treated like a plastic laundry hanger. Damp fabric goes on, the hanger sits in a humid drying area, and the surface gets rubbed every time the garment is checked. That is the use case to avoid.
Use velvet after the laundry is dry
Velvet hangers earn their place in a wardrobe by holding slippery straps, soft knits, dresses, and shirts without bulky clips. Use them for storage and display, not for drying. Once a garment is dry, hang it normally and let the velvet surface do the quiet job it was made for.
- Dry first. Move freshly washed clothes from the drying hanger only when the fabric is dry.
- Lift, do not drag. Take garments off by lifting them clear of the shoulders instead of pulling fabric across the hanger.
- Retire damaged hangers. If a flocked surface is wet, peeling, or worn through, replace it before it meets a light-coloured garment.

Can I hang damp clothes on velvet hangers?

Will the colour rub off on light clothes?
